I have mentioned before that NM Hispanics have the lowest % of new immigrants. They have lived in the area a long time, speak English and are not much different than white women. We can see that in the smoking stats where they rank #1 with a number similar to white women. Unlike Arizona, smoking for Native American women remains very low. It's,s just as low among NA men in NM. Except for Arizona, every state with a large enough Indian population big enough to survey has either a female smoking gap (sometimes massively big) or is basically tied. Their culture definitely doesn't believe in a male double standard for smoking.

NC is the only state where female smoking is at a 5 year high. Black women were up 4 points from the previous year.

The Native American number is certainly much higher but the sample size was too low this year to include.
