We had our chance to kill vaping in the summer of 2019 when the fake news reports of Juul hospitalizing thousands of kids (it was actually cannabis behind 100% of it) were at the top of the headlines every news cycle for weeks. But Trump kept it alive because he didn't want to piss off his vaping constituency ahead of the 2020 election. Can't help but think if Hillary was President in 2019, she'd have reflexively moved towards a maximalist vaping ban and potentially have put the industry on its heels two years ago. Of course we'd still have Tobacco 21 and the menthol ban would have been passed in 2017, but I think in regards to vaping we might be in a different place now.

I didn't take vaping seriously until 2018. At least in the Midwest, its uptick was slow, even among teens. I was surprised how many teen smokers I was still seeing during the 2017 fair season. That seems like a lifetime ago now. Smokers under 25 promise to be extremely rare moving forward.

Also I think cigarettes are up in price a good $1 a pack in the last year or so, without any tax increases imposed. I'm guessing reduced volume has led the tobacco companies to jack up prices per unit. I'm seeing most Class A brands selling for between $7 and $8 a pack even in Iowa these days. When I was in Missouri in June, it was $6.15 a pack for Marlboros. When I bought for Jerrica as recently as October 2018, it was less than $5 a pack. Even the cigarette displays at stores and gas stations has shrunk considerably in the last couple of years to account for the reduced sales. We're truly at the end of days here for tobacco.
