Hi Emily. I think that you're mixing me up with someone else.

I grew up in a time and environment when spanking was rather common for children. I did feel resentful of the strict rules and I did feel that a number of my spankings weren't necessary. That being said, I look back upon it with mixed emotions. I know that my parents spanked me primarily out of concern for my well being.

I did not raise my own children in such a manner. Though I believe that spanking is a legitimate parental tool, it's use must consider societal norms. In the 1960's, in an authoritarian, ethnic culture, it was considered normal to lift the back of a girl's skirt to administer a spanking.

As to other posters, I offer my advice to stimulate discussion.

Does that clarify my position?
