The "slot-free" cards they refer to are indeed the elusive beast Stuart has been pursuing. Space is similarly tight on a 575 and 475 board. The only problem I forsee might be one of speed; if the chips are rated for 33MHz, the cache might not work. (The 605/47x are 25MHz boards, and I know there were two different speeds of 040 PDS-based L2 cache.)

Somehow, $99 doesn't seem to be worth it, especially considering they probably have no more than $10 worth of parts in them if bought new from various suppliers.

Anyone with enough electronics knowledge to build an L2 card for the 040 socket? :) I could loan someone my copy of Brey's 680x0 interface textbook if they'd find it useful...
