I've only done the CL26 mod with a hi-res (not VGA) conversion. Which is yours?

The first VGA conversion I did didn't need the CL26 conversion at all - as, I think, one would expect from the slower refresh rate.

The second VGA conversion I did produced a display with such bad barrel distortion (as an alternative to a very narrow display) that no amount of preset tweaking would correct, that I didn't even try the CL26 mod, and reversed the display back to 512 x 384.

I wonder if some displays 'arrive' with all the barrel distortion correction capability 'used up' so that there is no capability of further tweaking after the VGA mod? It would all depend on component tolerances and variations, I guess.
