Hi, Graeme,

I'm going to assume that "getting in trouble" excludes "not getting caught". Too bad because that then also excludes several juicy tid-bits. Then there's the problem with the definition of "getting in trouble". A logical definition would be "doing something that your parents thinks is so unacceptable that they spank you for it", which sort of negates the very premise of this thread. That leaves us with a wishy-washy definition of "doing something that somebody else thinks is deserving of a spanking but not the person, like a parent, who would actually deliver the punishment." Good lord, that includes way too much for a forum post, even a Jerry-length one. What's left is misbehavior so trivial that it only merits getting crabbed at. Things like removing an olive pit from your mouth at the dinner table using your fingers. Did you know that etiquette demands that if you have something in your mouth that you don't want to swallow like an olive pit or a piece of bone you are supposed to bring a spoon up to your mouth, use your tongue and lips to push it onto the spoon, then lower the spoon to your plate, or saucer if you have one - not on the table! Besides me, how many of you have actually done that and is that number distinguishable from zero? That's what fingers were designed for! When I use them I get told off - does that count as "getting in trouble?" At least I don't spit the pit out aiming for the trash can in the kitchen. Maybe I should give that a try and see what happens... Nah, I'm not that curious. Then what happens if I up the ante and fart at the dinner table? That brings forth a rebuke even from my dad but I haven't been spanked for it...yet. Then there's sneezing without putting your hand up. I do that sometimes because a sneeze happens out of the blue with no warning and no tine to cover up. Scolded but not spanked.

That leaves us with these:

Once, when shopping for school clothes, an activity I prefer to getting a spanking, but not by a whole bunch, I got fed up with it and issued a disparaging word - several of them actually - which my mom found to be disrespectful. Fortunately for me my mom is not one of those mothers who spank whenever and wherever the misbehavior occurs. She didn't take into one of the changing rooms and try on a new belt, but she did tell me I was getting a spanking when we got home. When we did get home we were so exhausted that she let me off the hook and only reprimanded me.

Then there was the time on a long car trip when my dad got tired of me asking if we were there yet and told me to zip it. I didn't and he said that that was enough and I was getting a spanking when we finally did arrive. That shut me up because suddenly I didn't want to get there anymore. When we arrived he forgot about it. If you want to bet that I reminded him, don't bet anything substantial because you will lose the bet!

Oh, yeah, the time I chased a cat up a tree and then couldn't get down. It's supposed to be the cat that needs rescuing not the owner! Fortunately, my dad had a ladder long enough so we didn't have to call the fire department. The local news would have had a field day with that one - I'd still be trying to live it down! Almost didn't want to come down because I was sure I was going to get spanked, but no, just a talking to.

Then there're the times I committed two felonies but only got spanked for one. That means that I didn't get spanked for a crime that I got in trouble for. Like the time my buddy and I went hiking in the burned out section of Los Angeles after the fires. We were forbidden to go because it was too dangerous. We went anyway, with me hiding in the trunk of the car out of sight. I got spanked for hiking in the charcoal forest but not for riding in the trunk of the car, an activity that several adults here on the forum declared was far more dangerous and said they would have set a fire in my behind for that that was worse than the forest fire!
