Somewhere, maybe a page in the archives, is my memory of my only school paddling when I was in high school. I went to school in south Texas and graduated in 1992.

Each school I attended in the 80s and early 90s had corporal punishment.

It's not so much we got the choice as our parents did. The principal would call your house and offer up the choice. One time he couldn't get my mom so I took home a note saying I could be paddled first thing the next day or get the three days detention.

I hated school and would have chosen the swats over staying late. My mother had some trauma from attending school and did not trust them to paddle me. So generally her answer was no, I had to serve the detention or in school suspension, and then I got spanked at home anyway. The last time they called I was in high school and she told the principal I could decide (again, more of the memory is in it's own post).
