Despite how bad it used to hurt, i gotta admit being smacked did a lot of good at straightening out my behaviour.

The yardstick, dont know where it ranks against others like belt, paddle etc, but it packs a huge punch. Plenty of times me, and my brothers were on edge of doing something bad and one of us saying "this will get us the yardstick" often made us think twice.

Also, once i got hit with the yardstick for a particular offence, it was ususlly a long time till i reoffended.

Considering these two points, it was a harsh, but very effective punishment method
