There is one time when I was a boy that you could argue that we deserved to be paddled but we didn't get it.

It was summer, and we'd all been playing in the creek. So no school was pressing at the time. Just those wonderful carefree summer days.

It was my Best-Friend, her brother, their cousin and myself.

(This was minus my half-brother as I recall. He usually played with us, but I don't remember where he would have been this time, even if I ever knew in the first place.)

We were also joined, at the creek on this occasion by a few of the neighborhood kids. There were the two boys a couple houses down from Best-Friend, a little girl who lived a few houses further down still.

(Perhaps a few others)

Anyway, after several hours in the creek, and consequently getting as muddy as children can get, we all headed back to our various houses. Barbara to her's, Frankie and Vince to their's, and I followed Georgie and Nicole to their's.

My house was more than 3 times the distance of Best-Friend's, and it was VERY common for me to check in with Nicole's parents anyway (in case of a message from my own parents) before heading back home.

Besides, this might have been lunch time, so I might not be heading back yet at all! I often ate lunch at their house during summers, and Best-Friend's mother often ate lunch at our house whenever she was doing something for my Mother.

(Though I imagine, Nicole and Georgie would be up at our house there too, if their mother had been with mine that day.)

The point is that we were all... ALL of us, we were filthy from head to toes. Even Georgie, Michael, and Frankie who were all a couple of years older than Nicole, Barbara, Vince, and I!

Their mother stopped us at their deck, before we actually got into the house. She insisted that we strip down before going inside at all.

I suppose that she could have sent me home, but she didn't. I don't really remember if there was a message from my parents with her that day. But me sleeping over there, or her kids sleeping over at our house was just so common.

We did have a good view of Vince's and Frankie's deck from the deck we were on, and those boys had also been stripped all the way down. But before long, their dad was smacking them with a belt!

(Vince and Frankie always referred to it as a whupping)

I vividly remember Frankie jumping up and down, as he was repeatedly getting his smacks in the rear.

The boy was literally dancing circles around his old man, as he squealed in pain from the ceaseless strikes. And Vince was crying his eyes on the far side of their deck, knowing that he was getting it next.

We were actually getting really concerned ourselves, as we watched, because we were all no less filthy than those boys. And just that previous spring we (minus Michael, but plus my Half-Brother) had all gotten disciplined for playing in the very same creek ourselves.

And it had happened right where we were watching them from, at that moment.

However, that day was in the spring, and we had failed to change out of our school clothes before going down to the creek. This time we all had been wearing clothes that the adults didn't really care so much about.

So I have no idea why Mr L was beating on his boys, on this particular day.

Instead of all that, when Mrs C finally returned with towels from inside their house, she just led the four of us back down the steps of their deck, down to their back yard. Where we were less visible to the neighborhood.

Then she simply hosed us off with the garden hose.

She then let us into the house. I ended up wearing one of Georgie's t-shirts and whitey tighties which were both a few sizes too big for me.

But, for playing in, Nicole always wore overalls, and she and I were the same size. Whenever she was at my house, and had an unexpected need for changing clothes, she could wear anything of mine, no fuss, from either set of parents.

But most of her clothes were considered inappropriate for me to wear. Back then, overalls were actually believed to be boys clothes. In fact that's was the primary reason why Nicole was considered a Tom boy to most.

(That and how much she and I played together)

Her overalls not only fit me like a glove, for most of our childhood, (at least up to age 11) but they were really good at concealing the fact that her brother's clothes were several sizes too big for me.

I Wandered off the point there. Like I said, many would probably argue that. We deserved to be paddled that day For getting so muddy in the creek. And previously we had been paddled, but under different circumstances.

Mr L certainly seemed to believe we deserved a paddling, Given what he gave his boys.

Would you agree that we deserved it?

Also, a bigger question, have you ever gotten out of a punishment that you probably did deserve?
