My brother and i had a bed time from age 6. My folks also had a large stick which resembled a meter stick but thicker and it had a handle. We were told that for every minute we were late going to bed we would get 1 hit from each parent on our bare bum with this painful stick. If we were late a total of 10 minutes in a week then wednesday night after church we would get a hairbrush spanking from our mother. If we were late 5 times in a 14day period then we would get the belt from our father. The older we got the more per minute we received. I received a fair amount.
