It sounds like your Mrs. Dorsey was a real sweetheart. I had a few really nice teachers. My Kindergarten teacher was a grandmotherly type. Not like my Granny but the kind of woman you think of when you think about "going to see Grandma" She was getting up in years and not too far from retirement when I had her. She would spank you for misbehaving or make you stand in the corner. But she was just as quick to give you a hug as she would a spanking. My Papaw (Daddy's Daddy) died when I was five and I was heartbroken. One day in class she was reading a story that involved a little boy and his Papaw. When I was listening to her reading and I started thinking about my Papaw and started bawling. She had her assistant take over the class and took me outside. There were tables outside like the kind they have outdoors at the fast food places and we sat and talked. I was crying pretty bad and she had me come sit on her lap and cuddled me up rocking and talking to me. I talked about how Papaw would take me fishing with him and horseback riding. Even talked about the time he and Daddy took me deer hunting. I was all excited to go with them. Papaw had a shot lined up and was getting ready to take it and I started crying. I begged him not to shoot the deer. He just smiled at me, put the gun down and picked me up hugging me. She listened to me talking about him and was very sympathetic. Then she picked me up and took me to the office. She asked the Secretary to call Momma to come pick me up, telling her, "This little girl's heart is hurting and she needs her Momma." She sat there in the office with me on her lap the whole time till Momma got there. Then when Momma arrived, she told her all about what had happened saying, "This little angel is missing her Papaw today. I remember Momma starting to tear up and saying, "I miss him too." Then my teacher gave her a hug too. Teachers like her and Mrs. Dorsey are few and far between. I will always remember her as being my favorite.

It was so sweet of you to go with your sister to meet Mrs. Dorsey when she was so scared to start school. Although it was a little mean of you to tease her. But I guess that's what brothers and sisters do. I was a little guilty of teasing my little brother and sister sometimes. I'm glad she ended up loving her as much as you did though.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to lead you to your first hairbrush spanking from your Momma? It sounds like there may be a good story in that.
