I got paddled a few times in school, the last being 7th grade. 3 licks were all they were allowed to give us, and always over out outer clothing. But they must not have had any regulations about spefications of the paddle. Some were thicker than others.

One coach even had one that he planed down from a Louisville Slugger and he could grip it with both hands. I never got it from him but I witnessed him use it on the school playground. It appeared to really sting a student's behind but he obviously did not swing with full force.

I did not consider any of the paddlings I got, 1 or 3 licks unbearable pain, but I was not about to complain it was not hard enough.
