I've heard that some schools had it and that there is a limit of thee amount. I grew up in Wisconsin in the 2000s, and i never noticed anything. It might have been banned in that state, i haven't checked.

And wow, the coach sounds scary. I always thought paddling at school had to occur in a private room, and not in public. I guess some schools don't care, because it's common or normalized. I hope the paddling wasn't too bad, even if i was 1-3 hits, it sounds painful.
