With my parents and my family in general they spanked bare bottom when they had deemed us to have done something excessively bad, like in your example. There were bare bottom spankings for lying, stealing, and repeated disobedience.

The primary function of this was to increase embarrassment from being exposed and that got worse as we grew older especially if it was witnessed. It was kinda to make it more painful but also so they didn’t have to use implements. We were definitely mostly a hand spanking family. But there was a pretty openly acknowledged aspect of embarrassment when it came to serious misbehavior.

How old were you when this happened with you hitting your sister? Did you get spanked privately or in front of her?
