My mom spanked me and my sister a good bit when we were growing up. I always remember mine to be on my bare bottom and she usually used a wood kitchen spoon. I would guess she gave it that way because it hurt more than over clothes. And it did hurt. She spanked hard and with quick hits with the spoon.
