Although my parents never verbalized the reason for bare bottom spanking, it was pretty obvious. Until I was 11, all my spankings were over the lap on my briefs. From 11 on, until my last spanking at 15 all spankings were in my bare bottom.
I was never spanked with any implant, only an open hand, and looking back I’m certain they felt that the stinging bottom alone was enough to get the desired improvement in behavior. As I got older and bigger, they felt more was needed and baring me before putting me over the lap added embarrassment to the equation, while also increasing slightly the stinging (for those who were ever spanked bare and also over briefs, you know what I mean; the briefs provided very little protection).
I have to say that they were right. I recall finding spankings less formidable at ten then in earlier years. Likewise, the first time my mom took down my underpants, I was mortified and pleaded for a return to the old method.
