Yes, from your description, and from the way your spankings changed from over-pants sometimes and bare others to bare only after a certain age because you should "know better," I would conclude that the [i]point[/i] of a bare bottom spanking, at least during those middle years, was to make it worse for worse offenses - even if, in practice, it wasn't actually that systematic.

I wonder why more parents didn't use that system - bare bottom as an "ultimate" form of the punishment. I can only speculate that the reason I find it so fascinating is because of what I think of as my own lone experience with being spanked on my bare bottom. If it is a memory, as I think it is, it was surely done to send a more "serious" message and make the punishment seem more serious to me. I wonder if it was done to me more than once, or if my Mom threatened "bare butt" spankings to me and I just don't really remember the threat, because I have always had this notion of and fascination with the idea of the escalation of a "regular" spanking to a "bare bottom" spanking.
