My father’s method was to first throw me over his knee, and then yank down my pants and underwear while I was already over his lap. It happened so fast that I did not have time to fully process what was happening.

My mother would have me stand in front of her, and she would do the baring much more slowly. First she would take down my pants. If I was wearing jeans, she would take the time to unbutton them and undo the zipper. Then she would pull down my underwear. She made sure to make eye contact during this process. Her process took only a few seconds at most, but it was enough time for the reality of what was about to happen to sink in.

As I got older, my mom started having me bare myself. I don’t know the right words to describe how that made me feel, so I’m going to stick with embarrassed, exposed, and a little angry that I was being forced to prepare myself. There are few times I felt as “small” as when I had to do a shuffle over to her and bend over her lap.

Overall, I think I preferred my dad’s method the best. It was a little more violent and forceful, to be sure, but it was better without all the pomp and circumstance.
