I am old now. I was an only child. Back when I was a kid, among my family and all our neighbors spanking was the go to punishment. Spankings were always given completely bared, not just bare butt. I saw all of my friends spanked by their parents at one time or another, and they saw me spanked both my their parents along with them, and by my own, also usually along with them. I also saw their brothers and sisters spanked at one time or another Of course we all talked about it among ourselves, and would check out each other's backsides to see the redness and bruising.
