Not at our achool in the 60s. In those days parents had great respect for teachers and fully trusted them and there was no need for permission or notification to spank kids.
In fact I sometimes complained to my parents that I was spanked at school that day and their reply always was that if I was spanked at school it means that I deserved it.
I also was never spanked at home after I was spanked at school, unlike some others here.

I think it made more sense and was more fair not to require parental permission to spank at school because it would have been unfair to spank some kids who had parental permission while others who did not have parental permission were spared and got away with it. It makes sense to me anyway.

It also does not make sense to me to be spanked again at home after being spanked at school for the same thing and fortunately this did not happen to me.
