My mom, unquestionably. And thankfully that was largely the case as she was the primary disciplinarian in the family.

Unlike the others who have responded, the reason has nothing whatsoever to do with the level of pain or how hard one parent spanked over the other. Instead, I found being spanked by another male to be extremely humiliating and a loss of my dignity; such incidents were difficult to get over and put behind me. However, being spanked by a woman, and especially my mom, was just very natural to me and seemed to be the proper order of things; while it hurt and was still a little bit embarrassing, I felt no humiliation or loss of dignity. I could actually feel grateful and accept my maternal spankings with grace.
