Cynthia, I can only imagine that the whole process could only have been humbling and embarrassing. First having to make the short (yet in it's own way long) walk to your grandmother's house, and then start to tell her you had misbehaved and needed to be punished for what you had done. I can only imagine it might have seemed even more difficult if she was cordial and gentle but gradually got into a somewhat more serious and stern mood. Was that somewhat near the dynamic as your punishment with her hairbrush grew near?
