You unlocked a memory I have from 7th grade. I was in middle school band, in the percussion section. For percussion class, we mostly practiced drum technique and xylophone, but every Thurday was "Instrument of the Week Day" where the teacher would introduce a percussion instrument from the orchestra pit and give us a basic rundown and crash course.

One day the teacher comes in and says "the instrument of this week is the slapstick. I need a little help with something real quick though, so Ashley, please come join me in this practice room."

Ashley was a good student and good drummer, and she was a jokester who got along with everyone.
Also you likely know, but the slapstick is basically 2 hinged boards, the top.one having a sound hole, that when clacked together make the most imposing "CRAAACK!!" like a tree snapping or like a whip crack (as in the instrumental recording of the song "Sleigh Ride").

So the teacher and Ashley pop into the practice room. They keep the door open, but the rest of us were sitting in a semicircle in the band hall, outside of view. And then we hear ... "Ashley, don't you EVER do that again!! CRAAACK!!"
"AAAAHHHH!!"
CRAAAACKK!!
"AHHHH HA"
CRACKKK!!
"AHOO HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
Ashley got the first scream out convincingly, and it was as shocking and terrifying as warranted, but wuth the next two screams she laughed progressively harder to the point that she was probably hunched over laughing, so the rest of us in the class weren't held in suspense for more than a couple seconds altogether. To confirm, the teacher wasn't paddling our classmate. He was just playing the slapstick at fortissimo volume. Then teacher and student emerged, and we all learned how to play the slapstick.
