With my parents, "Attention Getters" were 1-3 swats over you clothing. There was no verbal warning of a real spanking if your behavior didn't improve. Your swat WAS your warning.

Imagine being a father and coming home from your difficult, stressful, alienating job to the bosom of your family only to be greeted by your wife at your door wanting you to spank one of your children on her behalf. That doesn't feel fair to me.

In my school, only our Principal could spank you; and this was very rare. And none of us ever heard of a girl getting a spanking from him. In fact I only know for certain of one boy getting spanked by him because I overheard my mother talking to another mother about it and saying she approved and that the boy deserved it.

So I don't know if there was a policy of never spanking girls, or if none of us ever misbehaved badly enough to earn one.
