I was spanked mostly by my dad until I was 10 years old. When I was little he would throw me over his lap and bare my butt when I was over his knee. Then he would spank until he thought I had learned my lesson and it felt like my butt was on fire. He started using his belt when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, but usually not on the bare bottom. When I was 10 he gave me a savage whipping that left me with bruises all over. The bruises got noticed at school and it became a whole thing. He never spanked me after that. I’m not sure if that was his decision or if my mom told him he wasn’t allowed to spank me anymore.

My mom was more of a yeller than a spanker. Most of the time she would just give me a smack on the seat of my pants or on the hand. I did get a few real spankings from her but usually I was sent to my room to wait for my dad to get home from work. After my dad stopped spanking me she would have me bare my butt and go over her knee. The first couple of times it felt like she didn’t really know what she was doing but she got used to it. She spanked me all the way up until I was 14. Although she did slap my face until I moved out at 18.

This was a bit of a heavy post. I had some resentment for the ways my parents punished me but I have moved past it now. I had a therapist tell me once that as long as you do an 80% good job parenting, you’re a good parent. I think they hit that 80% threshold.
