Since your cousin is much older, the coach may have had a different paddle back then. I am 70 years old. I do not remember any of our coaches having students sign the paddle when they got licks, but I think most of then would not have space on the paddle for more signatures after 10 years.

I image the Principal or A.P. in charge of discipline would have filled a paddle with signatures in less time.
