At the Australian children’s home in which Tonyforte grew up, the 11-year-old girls were responsible for bathing the the 5-year-old children of both genders, the 12-year-old girls for the 6-year-olds, and so on up until the 17-year-old girls bathing the 11-year-olds. 12-year-olds were trusted to take care of themselves.
Bath time was accompanied with motherly compliments such as "What a fine-looking young man you are!” "Let's get you nice and clean so you can be super proud of yourself."
The one-way deal was accepted without question by both genders. When newcomers complained, veteran residents would explain to them that “females are the natural care givers of our species, they give birth to humans of both sexes,” so “male nudity was . . . a given fact of life.”
On one rare occasion, a few boys sought to correct the injustice by sneaking a peak at the girls’ locker room. They were not harshly punished, but were delivered a message in the worship service the following Sunday morning. Here is the message as paraphrased by Tonyforte:
"Women deserve the respect, service, and protection of men. If we wanted to be considered adults, then we had to treat women with full respect, and that meant honoring their privacy.
"It is not the same for men because men are strong and can naturally protect themselves from unwanted coercion. But we could not consider ourselves gentlemen if we showed such a lack of respect for women as those boys showed. Women should be honored, for they are our caretakers. Women deserved total respect, and the full protection of men.
"Men can take care of themselves, but women need men to support them in all things, and that includes protecting all aspects of them, including their modesty. And as far as nudity goes, . . . women, being the sex that brings human beings, both male and female unto this planet, it’s not only no big deal for women to see men naked, but it is right and natural. It is their nurturing role that we honor by submitting to their loving care."
At some times, the young lad resented his feminine caregivers not for infringing on his modesty, but for dictating his dressing and grooming. They would sometimes cut his hair one way when he wanted it cut another way. They would sometimes tell him to wear one garment when he wanted to wear another.
Our young protagonist not only became accustomed to the lifestyle of the children’s home, but had some adjusting to do when a loving family took him in. One time, the womenfolk in his new family brought clean laundry into his bedroom when he was naked. They profusely apologized at first, but then realized that he saw no reason for them to apologize.
What most of us might value as privacy, Tonyforte dreaded as seclusion. He had his own bedroom, with no co-residents and no loving caretaker to watch over him. Even solitude in the bathroom was unpleasant for him.
By the same token, his foster family had difficulty in adjusting to his immodesty. Tony’s foster mother compromised by allowing him to leave his bedroom door open, but could he please keep the bathroom door closed.

It is an interesting setup because having several girl teams who gives a bath to the children of the different age groups doesn't seem to be optimal and reasonable. It would be more efficient to have one group of girls bathing all the kids who need this, regardless of the age gap. At least this is what the things were in my summer camp.
But of course the arrangement is much better for the boys because 6 year is a big gap which means no embarrassement for the boys.

I must be a rare case here. I was older than my sisters. When they were of the age they would be nude in the house I was eleven.
