The boys practiced the Maypole in PE barechested too, alongside the girls. I did this three times like that myself, at the age of 9, again at 10 and yet again when I was 11. "It seemed quite a popular day when we did this and we all seemed alright. When I hear such a fascinating story, I want to know all the details. I wish I knew who those boys spoke to and who spoke to them. I wish I knew what their doting female relatives said about them. Did they tell them how cute they looked? I wish I knew whether they arrived in their street clothes, changed into their gym shorts, and changed back, or whether they found it more convenient to asrrive and depart in their gym shorts. I would like to be one of those boys, I would like to be the gym teacher who told them to get out in front of 200 people in minimal attire, or I would like to just be a member of the audience.\ Part II: Why? In Latin America, there is a custom known as a “paseo.” Every Sunday afternoon, the single men walk around the central park one way and the single women walk around the central park the other way. A man/woman might try to catch the eye of any woman/man which he/she finds attractive. I suggest such a custom for the younger set, only this time with a little adult supervision. Mothers will show their female progeny in their Sunday best clothes. Mothers will show their male progeny in their freshly washed skin. When a boy and a girl have indicated a mutual attraction, they can drop out of the paseo and play on the playground equipment in the park. Meanwhile, the two mommies can take their places on the park benches and become acquainted with each other. If the two families decide that they click, one family can invite the other family to their home as guests. The female progeny might change into something less formal. The two families might dine together, either in the host’s dining room or at a local restaurant. Afterward, one family might introduce the other family to a neighborhood place of worship which holds a Sunday evening worship. When the two families enter the narthex with the male progeny in his freshly washed skin, the parishioners instantly understand the reason for his natural appearance and congratulate the female progeny on making such a fine catch. At the end of the evening service, the pastor might call the two young people to the altar, conducts a ceremony, and says, “By the powers invested in me, I declare you girlfriend and boyfriend.” II. Why? A similar ceremony is conducted in Moonrise Kingdom. The producer of that movie did not believe that his heterosexual pursuits got the respect they deserved from the older generation.
