 My disrespectful behavior towards my mother (and very rarely towards my father) takes the form of saying something disrespectful -- not calling her names or swearing, but still disrespectful in words or tone or just by ignoring her. More than once I've told her to stop interfering, or I don't need her advice, or I don't want to hear it, not to mention the memorable time when I told her to "shut up" -- my butt paid a steep price for that and she also mouth soaped me.

Yes, it is childish to be disrespectful towards my parents. If spanking is a childish punishment then so much the better (though I obviously think that spanking is also a very appropriate punishment for adults).
