I absolutely remember those novelty paddles! When I was young I lived in Florida, and we would do a road trip to visit family in Ohio every so often. (This would have been the early-mid 80s.) Most of the trip was a straight shot up I-95, and it felt like all the bigger rest stops had a small restaurant, and a gift shop that inevitably had a little stack of those paddles tucked away in a corner. My mom never bought one, thank goodness. I would have been mortified if she had, lol.

I don't recall ever getting in trouble on a road trip, but even if I had, I doubt she would have bought one of them. My mom never spanked me with anything except her hand, though in retrospect, those paddles seemed pretty flimsy, and they might have been preferable to her hand. Despite the fact that they were unlikely to ever be purchased, ever time I saw one of them, it made me a just a little uneasy. I imagined how embarrassed I would be to have to stand there while she bought it, knowing that everyone who saw her buy it, knew it would be used to spank me. 😳

I'm honestly surprised that anywhere still has them! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane, lol.
