Subject: diamond ring

My online lover whom I have met twice and been involved with for two yrs recently bought me a diamond ring. While not an engagement ring per se it was to represent that he was serious about me and wanted a life with me.
Then we started arguing a month after he gave it to me and now he says he has doubts and does not feel we will work out. he really wanted me to keep it saying he bought it for me because he loves me and that does not go away.he was very insistent I keep it.I was so hurt I insisted I was going to return it.Now his whole family are expecting him to get it back so that he can get a refund.......however, now I have doubts..........it really is all I have to remember him by and while the significance was taken away...it is all I will have to remind me of him. I have decided to keep it , which I am sure the family will think me greedy in doing( we are both in our 30's and it is none of their biz really).
Who has an opnion on this and do you thinkm I should keep it?It is for sentimental reasons of course , for I felt he was the love of my life and it was him who felt he was not so sure I am the one.........thanks
