Subject: Y2K Watch - 16 Days

Well, if all goes as planned, I will lie low at home by myself or with one self-reliant friend during the last day of this millennium and the first day of the next. I hope to avoid the need to do any radical partying or get crazy this New Year's Eve, and if all goes as planned, I will entertain myself by monitoring the international and local news, listening to Art Bell and peeking out the window once in a while as I guard my 3 month supply of frozen broccoli.

And if all goes well powerwise, computerwise, ISPwise and so on, I plan to be posting. I plan to post any interesting goings-on approx hourly during NY Eve here on the Blue Board as I monitor things. So if you're near a connection as the millennium begins to turn, you might check in to see if we're still up, if you're not facedown by then in a shrimp salad at Blue Ralph's Blast of the Era party, or in a similar situation.

In the mean time, if you come across anything interesting that's semi-unwellknow or not-so-overly widely reported regarding Y2K, you might want to let the rest of the Blue People in on it. I will do the same. As we speak, I have some things that I'm keeping an eye on, and will report. There are partially substantiated rumors that, even if other communication systems go south, the Net will stay up, though it may have periods of ups and downs. The thing is, nobody really knows what's going to happen, but it's certain that "things" will happen.

So keep your eyes open, your ear to the ground, your powdered potatoes dry and don't do anything I wouldn't know you didn't do (and especially don't wait till NY Eve to visit the ATM). I have a feeling we may be in for some very interesting goings on in the following days. I hope you are all at least minimally prepared.

My not-too-overly-out-on-a-limb prediction: It will be somewhere between "very interesting goings on" and "the end of all things". Hold on to your hamsters because I believe, as one of our fine Blue brothers might put it: It may well be a wild ride.

I hope the Blue Board holds up, but if it doesn't, I want to take this early opportunity to wish my Blue friends a Happy End of Millennium! GF
