Grisen was immediately siezed by the cloaked figure and was shoved roughly into the surrounding foliage, almost landing flat on his face. Regaining his balance, he whirled on Sarvin angrily, and found a sword point at his throat. Her voice was full of raw anger. "Listen to me human, while you are with me you do exactly what I say when I say it! Your follishness could cost Fyrth his life and you yourself have just put your foot in something bigger than you can percieve! Now move!"
Grisen swallowed his anger bitterly as she swept past him, her sword still unsheathed. Sarvin sprung into a run, ducking behind trees, leaping over fallen trunks and dodging Thornstem bushes. Grisen followed her as well though she neither looked back at him or even slowed.
He concentrated on keeping right behind her, stumbling often on unseen roots. The leaves crunching beneath his feet sounded horribly loud, but they made only the slightest crackle where Sarvin stepped as if they were only half-heartedly breaking. What is she? Thought Grisen to himself. She talks as if she's not human and maybe she isn't...
Suddenly, without even the slightest warning, three Radgem burst from behind nearby trees in a shower of churned up dirt, howling like dogs in their eagerness to kill. Sarvin barely paused. Like a graceful cat, she continued to run forwards without slowing but her sword whirled and slashed in a rippling display of light. Blood flew off the blade like rain. The deep scarlet drops of Radgem blood seemed to hang in the air before falling. Two Radgem were down already, writhing in the bloody dirt, kicking their long legs in their death throes that twisted their bodies unnaturally. The one remaining ducked under Sarvin's crimson blade and came up on her left side where her defenses were open. The Radgem swung a black axe skillfully and grinned. Grisen leapt in to help, but like chain lightning, a knife was suddenly in Sarvin's left hand. Like the stinger of some deadly wasp, she drove the long blade into the Radgem's arm.
The Radgem snarled disgustingly, its teeth coated with a fresh crimson sheen and lunged at her, dropping the axe and charging with outstretched claws. The knife still protruded from its arm, sunk up to its hilt. Sarvin twisted around like smoke and kicked teh Radgem full in the chest. The Night Demon hybrid was senmt smashing backwards into a nearby tree and slumped like a ragdoll, falling brokenly to the ground.
Grisen came to a shocked halt, staring at the dead and dying Radgem, but Sarvin only walked over and wrenched her knife free, making it vanish as quickly as she had withdrawn it. Whirling on Grisen, she snarled, "Stop staring human! I cannot afford to Weave the Flows again. Moving the earth took a lot out of me, but if we linger than I may have to. Move!"
Sarvin took the lead again, bloodied blade held before her, dark gauntlets dripping gore. Like an agile deer, she leapt through the forest, cloak billowing out behind her like wings. Grisen leapt after her, catching up and running alongside. "You? You moved the ground?"
The hood swiveled viciously to face him, the eyes glittering in the depths of that dark cavern that was her face. "Do you think this is the time to ask questions?" As if to prove her words, the sound of hoofbeats erang out again, coming closer and closer. It was like a giant heart beating within the earth. Not many pairs, but only one.
Grisne swung to the sound like a moth to the flame, hope rising in his face. Sarvin turned with him, but not with hope. Shoving Grisen roughly behind her, she hefted her blade and squared herself, planting her feet firmly in the soft ground. Digging the cruel spikes on the underside of her boots in, she waited, like a leopard about to spring. With one hand, she tossed back her cowl, gripping the crimson blade tighter with the other. Slightly wavy, golden reddish hair spilled from her hood like a river of flame, fierce green eyes glittered from a slightly tanned face, and her sharp white teeth were bared in a smile.
Several feet away, the horse came to a halt, standing as still as a mountain as its black rider swung out of the saddle easily. Not Fyrth. Grisen could tell that at a glance. The figure was sturdily built and tall, filled with a deadly potency from his short powerful stride to the broadsword held in his fist.
