Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac swung out of the shetan's saddle with a practiced ease, tossing the reins to a cowled Stabnar that appeared next to him swiftly. From the Stabnar's lithe, lanky form, Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac knew him to be Bwir, even without glancing at the belt of snakeskin buckled around the man's waist. Needles of all lengths and sizes, each one at least as thick as a finger and the length of a dagger, glittered admist the black of belt and cloak. Some were jagged, some were wickedly barbed, and some were still stained red. Bwir...An utterly disgusting man.
Bwir took the reins easily and turned leading both his demon's and his Captain's away. "You shouldn't have sent Demarkon after her!" came the accusing female voice from behind him. Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac turned slowly, his crown glittering menacingly, one hand straying to the bright whip of a sword at his side.
The speaker was Grinfak, who appeared to be lounging casually on her broadsword at first glance, but the Dark Captain could see the spring of coiled energy in her. Her cloak was taut as it stretched over her tight muscles and the spike on the toe of her boot dug cruely into the ground. The fifteen other Stabnars flowed purposefully around, erecting a camp of the roadside, but not her. The Falcon of the Dark had no patience to spare.
"Get to work Grinfak! Now!"
She didn't move, only leaned more casually on her weapin, but she continued to wrench the spike on her boot even deeper into teh ground, betryaing nervous energy. "You knew Demarkon didn't have a chance against Sarvin. You knew it! You knew that it had to be either me or you or maybe Vanirye that could have brought her down! You knew it and yet you sent Demarkon anyway! And he died!" Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac's sword whispered out of its scabbard.
"Get to work now!"
The Stabnar studied him slowly. "Why did you send Demarkon?"
The Captain's jaw clenched in anger and he reached out to the Flows. he could feel them ever and always in one corner of his mind, tugging and jarring like a hooked fish that fought the line, but it was only when he Wove that he paid them any attention. He opened his mind to them and the strands of magic burst into his head like a falsh flood, coursing, running, setting him on fire. But he was used to this. He fought them back ruthlessly, crushing and snapping them into place. High Magic dipped under Old Magic, Old Magic intermixed with Iron magic, and they fought him the entire way. Place one thread wrong, lose control for one second, and they won. They could kill as easily as they could heal...and then the Weave was complete; all it took were seconds before he could slam it home.
The air around Grinfak churned and frothed like the tentacles of some monsterous creature, hardening into needles of air and lashing at the Stabnar. Only a Weaver could see the long shards of soldified air, but a Weave worked on both Weavers and non-Weavers alike. Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac watched in satisfaction as the first stab grazed Grinfak on her chesta nd sent her sprawling back into the dirt. A second needle whipped across her arms, the black sleeves were split open and blood poured out from long slashes on her forearms. Grinfak tried to rise with a snarl, but a thrid blow to her stomach, sent her falling back.
It was only when her growls of rage subsided to harsh pants of pain, did Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac release the Flows. The air stopped its striking and the Captain sagged inwardly at the effort of maintaining the Weave. It had indeed been a long day...
Grinfak rose slowly, her robes torn and stained with seeping blood, but she still had strength...Strength and unthinkable defiance. She Wove. The Weave was weak, but the unexpectedness of it, made up for what it lacked in force.
The ground boiled and bubbled half-heartedly, as twisted shapes, sprouting too many arms and legs dug to the surface. Hands, white-washed and faded, flicjering in and out of existence, grabbed Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac, trying to pull him under the earth, the creatures blind eyes rolling in sockets too large and hollow. The long glittering blade of the Falcon slashed into his attackers, his eyes burning with anger and his face contorted in a feral snarl. Black blood fell thick, running down his magnificent sword, splattering onto his face, and onto his crown, like tears from the sky. And suddenly, the creatures were gone, his blade sang through empty air, and he stood upon un-moving ground.
Grinfak hung spread-eagled in the air, he could see the Flows that bwir and Rusk Wove to keep her there. Bwir's hand kept jerking to his belt, longing to use his needles on even the second most powerful Stabnar. Rusk's weight shifted from foot to foot as he struggled to maintain the Weave, but he managed to.
The rest of the Stabanrs stood gathered at his side, everyoen of them watching Grinfak carfully as she rose to her head to look the Captain in the eye. She didn't struggle or attempt to break the Weaves that held her bound and her voice was thick as if filled with blood.
"You let your hate consume you Falcon! You chased after the Serpent that tries to slither away instead of teh wolf that will lunge at any minute."
Bwir's hand jerked towards his belt more ferociously. They had always hated each other. Al'Sheen'Al'Tamorac sheathed his sword, his crown dripping dark blood into his face. "You forget yourself Grinfak. You're not the leader of teh Stabnars anymore are you? You're a worm in the mud, crawling on your belly, and trying to feed of other's waste!"
Grinfak's laugh sounded as frenzied as one of Sarvin's. "Am I? Tonight, in Tyrin'al'sin, the Great Lord will punsih you for letting Sarvin escape. Then what you did to Fyrth will look like nothing compared to what the Great Lord will do to you."
