~*~From the journal of Saih Darkeye~*~
Today a strange fox came to Fort Lancepaw, as soon a he saw me he asked if I was Saih Darkeye. I said that I was, and he told me that he knew my mother! Naturaly I wanted to know how, but he said that he would tell me the story this evening. He was very sad to hear that my father has recently passed away, for he was hoping to meet him. I must go now, as it is time for supper.
Saih Darkeye, Daughter of Killitha Deathbringer and Shardja Quickslay.

The old fox eased himself into a comortable armchair, and began to tell Saih Darkeye the tale of her mother Killitha Deathbringer: The wildcat warrior.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It had been two days since she had left her home at Fort Lancepaw. Two long days of tracking the vermin. She tossed her dagger into the air, deftly catching it by the blade tip. Suddenly she heard a noise, turning to look she saw a beat up fox on the side of the path, calling for help, "Help...me...somebeast..." She rushed to his side, "What happened?" she cried. The fox managed to whisper, "A...band of...vermin...came and...burned my village...I...was the only one...left...alive." Then he lost conciousness. Killitha tended to the foxes wounds until he was well, then they both set out after the vermin.
Sometimes they came to burned villages, or the carcasses of the beasts that had stood in the evil vermin bands way. Every time they did, they stopped to give the dead proper burrials. One day, they came to their enemies camp. After much planning, they attacked. Killitha slew vermin left and right. Then she made her way to the leader, she fought him bravely, and finally killed him. But just as he was going down, he stuck his dagger into her side. After all the vermin were dead, the fox searched for Killitha. He found her laying on her back. She was still alive, but fading rapidly. When she spoke her last words, there were tears of regret in her eyes, "Please go to Fort Lancepaw and tell my daughter that I'm sorry I couldn't return. I wish that I could see her grow up, but..." The foxes eyes were also filled with tears as he interupted her, "No, you can't be dying. Isn't there some way?" She shook her head, "No, there's a long dagger stuck in my side, I am dying. Goodbye my faithful friend." Then she breathed her last breath. So died Killitha Deathbringer, mother of Saih, and wife of Shardja.
There was silence, then Saih asked the fox how he knew what had happened. He replied, "Because I was the fox that she healed, and I was the fox who wept over her grave." Saih wiped a paw briefly over her eyes, but asked him one final question, "Will you take me to the grave of my mother?" He nodded, "Yes, but 'tis along way from here." Alright," She stated, "We leave early in the morning. I think we'd better get some sleep now."
Epilogue:
It was a gray rainy evening when two lone figures walked up the hill to the mound of dirt. Silently the larger figure, an old fox, placed a bouquet of white roses on the mound. Then he walked back down the hill, leaving the smallest figure, a wildcat, alone. She knelt in front of the grave, her tears mingling with the rain. Slowly she put a single red rose next to the white ones. Then she got up and went down the hill again.
