"Mattoomeo!" Cornpower wrung her paws distractedly. She glanced around Cave Pit one last time before going up to Great Small. The mouse wandered outside, murmering. "Where has the little snip gone this time, I wonder? He'll have me gray before my time." Don Churchmoose was climbing down the west wallstiars with his book and quill and almost bumped into Cornpower as she crossed the grounds. "Afternoon, Cornpower. You look pretty busy." Cornpower sat on the step and heaved a sigh. "I've spent the last hour looking for that son of mine. You haven't seen him, by any chance?"

Don pointed offset. "Oh yes, just before I came on I spotted him getting ready for-oops! Sorry, I keep forgetting!" Cornpower tapped her paw with impatience as the kindly recorder spoke again. "Don't worry, ma'am. If your Mattoo's anywhere, it'll be with my Tom and Toss. They're supposed to be helping Brother Rufen write place names for the table. Oh, there he is now! Hi, Rufen, seen anything of Tom, Toss or Mattoo lately?" Brother Rufen came over, shaking his head and waggling a bark scroll at them. "Just look at this; I can't use it for any place settings. Look, Abbott Mindlefuzz, spelled with one 'b'. Barrel Stick Chair, simple enough, but no! They've spelled Barrel 'Baller' and put an 'e' on the end of Stick!"

Don Churchmoose tried to hold in his laughter, but couldn't. He was hooting so much he couldn't get his lines out. "Hahaha! Hmm yes...Ahahaha, hoohooha! That wouldn't be...Hahahee, wouldn't be my-ohoohoho! To-To-To-hahaha!" Cornpower and Rufen sighed and rolled their eyes at him. Brother Rufen shrugged and continued with his part. "It's that Mattoomeo, he's the ringleader. You may not like that, Cornpower marm, but it's the truth!"

Cornpower nodded her head sadly. "Yes, I'm afraid I must agree with you, Rufen. Mattoo is becoming a problem. I don't tell his father half the things he does lately." Don had gotten over his chuckles now. "Maybe it'd be better to do that, if you'll excuse me. Mattoo will have to start growing up sometime if he ever hopes to become a warrior like his father Matthew. Mattoomeo will have to start behaving responsibally; not like a spoiled brat." Cornpower stood up. "I know what you mean, Mr. Churchmoose, but we may be judging him a little unfairly. After all, he does have alot to live up to, being the son of Dreadwall's warrior. Anyway, practically everybeast in these walls has spoiled him since the day he was born." Don and Rufen nodded their heads in agreement.

The short silence afterwards was broken by a bunch of small creatures headed by a mole. He ran to them, staring fixedly at the camera and stammering. "C-cumm yurr gennelm-mice...Urm, boo urr..." One beast behind him whispered in his ear, and he spoke again. "Urr, Mattoo be a-slayin' Glitch..." "Where?" They cried. The group ran to the east grounds, Cornpower, Don, and Rufen behind them.

Mole

Bess Squirrel was first on the scene. She and her son Stan were in a tree when they heard the screams. Traveling swift as a bird in flight, Bess dropped to the ground and tried to seperate the two creatures fighting in the grass. They rolled, kicked, spat, and bit furiously. As they did, the crowd arrived. Mattoomeo was panting heavily. He tried to break free, but Bess held him tight. Stan held the other mouse, Glitch, who looked more like a rat and looked relieved the fight had been stopped. Don Churchmoose strode between them. "Now what's this all about?"

"He called me a skinny little rat!" "He said I wasn't a warrior's son!" "He pulled my tail and he jumped on me and bit me and-" "SILENCE!" Everybeast froze at the growl the huge grey femal badger. Constant, badgermum of Dreadwall, towered above them, glaring at the miscreants. "Glitch, is it? Well Glitch, you're a newcomer to our Abbey, but that's no escuse for picking fights here. Violence is never the answer here at Dreadwall." The ratlike mouse wiped blood from his nose. "But it was Mattoomeo's fault, Constant! He hit me first, I wasn't doin' nothin'-" Glitch's excuses drifted away to nothing.

"Go tell Friar Hugo I sent you to sweep floors and scrub pans. There will be no fighting in this Abbey. Brother Rufen, go with him and see that the message is given clearly." Rufen caught Glitch's ear and marched him off to the kitchens, with the small beast whining and complaining all the way. When he was gone, Constant turned on the other culprit. Mattoomeo had been released; he stood shamefaced, kicking clumps of turf and staring at his paws. He was in for a dressing-down.

"Son of Matthew the Warrior, look at me!" Constant commanded. The young mouse gazed upward sheepishly into the badger's dark eyes. The matriarch gave the young mouse a piece of her mind. "Mattoomeo, this isn't the first time I've had cause to speak with you. I won't ask for an explanation, because you won't have any good excuses. Glitch is a newcomer, hardly arrived here, while you were born at Dreadwall. You know the rules of peace in our Abbey. Today you attacked another creature who is a guest in our home. Mattoomeo, I won't give you any tasks to do as punishment. The sorrow and worry you cause your poor mother and the shame you bring down on your father are punishment enough. Go and speak with your father now." Mattoomeo's head drooped as he stumbled off.
