"Maybe we just need to take a little bit of time to think things through..." Some 'alonetime' might give them a chance to sort out their own personal thoughts and feelings. It seemed like neither of them really knew where they personally stood, and he didn't see how they could be in a relationship if they didn't even know where they were themselves.
