I'm chasing the ghost of a good thing...


The other guys weren't taking the weekend off, but had assured him that, in this situation, he needed to go home for a couple days - they could manage the radio interview and some of the other promo stuff that was scheduled for that weekend without their lead guitarist, because he really needed to get himself sorted out. He had spoken to her only once in the past two weeks - since that first after-the-fact phonecall, which was significantly less frequently than was the norm before all this blew up - but she knew that he was coming in that night, and he was there about when he had estimated he would be. For a moment, he hesitated outside her door, and then inhaled a slow breath as he reached up to knock - a few weeks ago, he would probably have just let himself in. It was late, and flights tended to wear people out, but he looked especially rough. His drug usage had increased since their fight - he just couldn't get comfortable, couldn't chill out - and he had all but given up on sleeping. He was showered and shaven though, and wearing designer clothing - as per the demands of the record company. He couldn't even wear his favorite ratty old jeans on the plane anymore - only in the privacy of his own home or when he was in hiding. It was too important that the band maintain an appropriate star celebrity status - said their managers...
