heh heh heh.

plato's cave is an interesting allegory. you are right, it is a truly fine example of the limits of human perception and our understanding of reality. i had to refer back to the republic to refresh myself. i am glad for the chance to have delved back into the mind of such a great man.

i do believe there is a degree of cognizance in the womb after a certain point of development of the brain. you have to have neurons able to fire, neurotransmitters, and the pathways for them to travel before thought or conciousness can occur. before that it is just a blob of developing tissue with not much going on besides cells migrating, dividing, setting up house, etc.

so there is a slippery slope between consiousness and non-conciousness. now between exsistence and non-existence there is not so much of a slippery slope, or less of one.

just because something exists does not necessarily means it exhibits conciousness. you dont even have to look to amoeba. look at people in persistant vegetative states. brain dead. no conciousness there. they havent ceased a physical manifestation, they are corporeal, so where'd they go?

darwin...not sure how natural selection interferes with mythology, do explain!!
