ah, quantum physics...interesting stuff. the multiverse. yes, i am familiar with this.

Schrodinger's Cat is used to illustrate this, heh heh. this is the cat that is placed in the lead box and the box is closed . you know the cat is in the box. now a capsule of cyanide is thrown in the box. does the cat break the capsule and die, or not break it and live? the cat is both dead and alive. an analogy for the multiverse.

the universe (or part of the multiverse, if so) is expanding...redshift tells us so). what we dont know are initial conditions. unstable initial quanta vs. something completely random. we dont even know the type of spacial geometry we have (linear, hyperbolic or spherical (closed)). i did not know this until i went doing a little research and actually found the equations for calculating initial universal conditions. which i will post for interest not that i can do anything with them, but hey if we're gonna be erudite, let's play it to the max:

-3d2a/dt2 = 4*pi*G (p + 3P/c2)a

3(da)2/dt = 8*pi*Gpa2 - 3kc2

(k is the constant you can put the three different spaces into...i assure you i will not be doing so!)(i am not going to bother to post the rest of the math stuff unless someone actually wants it - this was sort of a joke anyhow!!!)

anyhow, the contracting part...well you are talking oscillating universe theory, which has inherent problems, like radiation accumulation, entropy accumulation...we arent seeing those things...we are in a low entropic state which argues against a cyclic oscillating universe. (i'm a little fuzzy on all this). but basically, every time the universe would get big and then contract, you would get more radiation and more entropy (things tend towards an entropic state - 2nd law thermodynamics). there is some guy out there who has postulated that the slate is wiped clean each time we contract but i dont think he has gotten near to proving it yet. that is why i wonder at hawkings wave idea...

quantum foam...this is quantum gravity. i had not heard of it before! it has not been proven yet because no one has the equipment to do it. i went to a lot of physics sites to see if someone had done it, but nope, not yet.

really neat though, glad you brought it to my attention! thank you delena. i have been reading about it all afternoon! i am not a math person (hell i am not a physics person either), but i like to try to understand stuff. the mathematics behind this quantum gravity is very complicated. add in the string theory and i cannot even begin to comprehend it. i only had calculus and general physics. so i dont even think i am going to ramble on about it. but thanks for letting me know so i could look it up and try to educate myself! :)

*wipes brow, whew, deep stuff! lol!*
