hey storm! btw, yeah, things are getting better. i put ravin on my icq (something i haven't had him on for months) but i'm still wierded out at the thought of talking to him again.
anyway...
how about this for an answer about love?
it's circular. it's one of those self-propogating cycles. lemme see if i can explain.
love: love is a human emotion. humans, by their very nature, are higher on the evolutionary chain than almost all other creatures of the earth. we have something called sentience, and because sentience requires the most complex mental powers and processes, we naturally have other ailments and "states of being" that other animals wouldn't.
things that include, but are not limited to, sociopathy, self-doubt, self-esteem, empathy, and love. love is an emotion we have because we are capable of a unique process (chemical and physical) other creatures are not.
which leads to the physical consequences of feeling love: higher blood pressure, rising temperature, shallower breathing, pupils dialate, feelings of elation, to name a few. as medeis has said, there is physical evidence that can be measures such as on PET scans.
but that is "love" reduced to the chemical and physical, which is nothing but reflex.
so what, praytell, activates that reflex? again, it's the feelings and deeper (shall i dare say profound?) emotions we are capable of experiencing purely because of our higher state of being.
thus, the cycle.
of course, i truly believe that we are not alone on this planet having the capabilities we do. we share them with an interesting animal that, in a lot of ways, is superior. the dolphin is capable of love. truly! studies have shown that the physical reactions humans experience when shown photographs or voice recordings of the people they love, dolphins are displaying as well! how's that for some incredible facts? they are capable of hate, love, jealousy, vengeance, lonliness, depression...it's incredible.
but that's just a side note that i thought i'd share. thought it was interesting science...
