What the study doesn't mention is that there are differences in longevity between the several sects or institutions.

I once saw a TV feature portraying several monastic orders. One was a contemplative ('Karthaeuser', don't know what it is in English) order that demanded absolute solitude and poverty. People there appeared to be genuinely happy and it is not uncommon there that people reach the age of one hundred years. They are buried in a simple wooden casket without name.

Another part dealt with a conventional Catholic nunnery. I cannot judge, but the nuns didn't look that happy. It was said that the average life-time of the nuns was merely sixty or so.

In both cases people joined the monasteries due to an inner call or at least by free will.

Age also differs from country to country. In China people get very old, while in India - I think so - people generally die earlier than Europeans do. I have no statistics. If true, are Indians then the most un-spiritual, un-religious people?
