Subject: Regional Advisory Bodies

The Arts Council believes that the current mechanisms for local government engagement with Regional Arts Boards could be improved. The Prospectus suggests the creation of a Regional Advisory Body with formal links to the Regional Assembly and Regional Development Agency.

West Midlands Arts Board is concerned that key regional individuals would not wish to engage in a purely advisory capacity and that the development of policies which genuinely address regional need could be undermined.

Are you satisfied with the current relationship between West Midlands Arts and local government? What is your view of the proposals in the prospectus regarding the creation of Regional Advisory Bodies?

Are you satisfied with the current relationship between West Midlands Arts and local government?

Seems okay; varies from authority to authority, arts form to arts form. Not at sure how a single national body would have the feel for the nuances of local issues.


What is your view of the proposals in the prospectus regarding the creation of Regional Advisory Bodies?

There is a fiver for anyone who can come up with an example of any advisory body in history which has achieved anything.
