When asked on the Miss Universe bio about What makes her unique from the other contestants? Latoya Woods, this country's representative for the 59th edition of the Miss Universe Pageant which airs on Monday, August 23 from Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, said, "I'm a recent pageant convert, as it took lots of urging for me to enter the pageant. Working towards a goal with a team and recognising that my efforts can yield an outcome of a greater good, have been an amazing awakening. My approach would be my conviction to the responsibilities and doing a good job for the organization and, of course, bringing immense pride to my country. Imagining the 'Universe' of opportunities excites me!!!"

And it is with this conviction that Woods has dedicated the last six months in preparing for the upcoming competition. Woman Express asked her what matters most of all to her and this was her response.

"I recognise the responsibility of representing one's country; it's important to respectfully honour those who have given me so much, by doing my very best. Peter Elias has generously put together my preparations which have been wide and encompassing. He has opened my eyes to better understand the Miss Universe Organisation and their needs. They're basically having a job interview to select the best-suited representative for their company and sponsors."

Elias who was the main part of the conversation gave us an individual breakdown of the team that is working with Woods. "Beauty is the foundation of this competition;and Calvin French has been an anchor in this process. Although it took years of encouragement to get Latoya to actually enter the competition. French has worked with her for sometime to develop her skills in front of the camera. The ability to use and position one's body and face effortlessly is crucial for a successful delegate. Latoya today is probably one of the most perfect ramp and editorial models as a result of his grooming and her dedication. "

Another important basic need, Elias pointed out, is make-up application as there are so many possibilities in this expression, and always being well presented is important. He said, "Yvonne Popplewell has been training her for several months. Popplewell was selected not just because of her tremendous experience and manner, but moreso for the opportunity afforded tor Latoya to converse for hours upon hours with a sophisticated, witty and charming woman."

Adrian Raymond, according to Elias, is another important aspect of Woods development. He is instrumental in helping delegates develop the ability to better understand their personas, likes and dislikes. This, Elias stressed allows them to be more in touch with their souls.

"As a result Woods is clear about who she is, where she comes from and where she's going. Her interview skills are excellent and she is able to successfully communicate with various stakeholders at many levels."

There are so many other important aspects, Elias said, for example Bally's hair care and styling sessions have allowed her to learn how to create a variety of looks. "The new 'bob' she now dons was the result of much thought by the team and Bally is also an official Miss Universe hairstylist, so its re-assuring to have a fellow 'Trini' backstage."

When it comes to her hard body, Elias said it has been transformed by trainer Stevenson Dillon at the Long Circular Gym. Gerald Alfonso has facilitated her training at the Long Circular Club and her diligence under Stevenson's skillful guidance has created a wonderfully attractive, balanced and toned body.

Voice training was credited to Sonya Moze. "Her intense training with Moze has enabled her to learn to use her voice as an instrument. It's amazing the awareness of using the tone of your voice for effect."

"Alyson Brown for stage performance is unstoppable! There are so many other experiences with so many talented people that shapes a delegate's preparedness; I can go on and on. All of the administration and travel arrangements are organised by ND Ian Lee. Her national costume is being developed by Monique Nobrega Ackin of Tribe…and her wardrobe will comprise a fantastic variety of local and regional designers," Elias revealed.

"Using pieces recently shown at Fashion Week by Guyanese native Sonia Noel, French photographed Woods for images to be used on many international websites that follow the Miss Universe Pageant and we thought these garments epitomised the ease and un-done sophistication of the Caribbean. She looks radiant in these photos and I must share what one facilitator said of Woods and it also sums up my take on her… 'she's a good person, and good is greater than great!'"

Like LaToya will be going to Miss Universe with the bob hair style. I think it should be long.

In an article in express woman's magazine it is indicated that she will be going in a modern bob. So I guess she is. I don't particularly like it either. However I trust in Peter and the team. After all Tanzania did make it with a man's cut. A lot of Ms Universe fans loves a black candidate only when she resembles a black barbie doll. It's so sad. But I really think she looks better with the hair she had the night she was crowned Ms Trinidad and Tobago. I guess we will have to wait and see.

[> [> [> Subject: If you read the article you will see that the team is going for a specific look. I like the long hair on her but the bob done right can look outstanding. I do not know what will be La Toya's final styling but I believe the team is very smart and know what they are doing.
