La Toya tried her best and I must say congrats to her for all the attention she was able to garner for herself and her country.
However TT needs to get its books in order, as I said 2 years ago, we're still new to this MU thing, we need to seriously consider dropping this pageant if we have this mentality of 1998, slow and regal beauty queen and loads of brain is not the answer.
La Toya's performance for the presenation show was alright, but it was not enough! I don't know if that was the strategy (slow walk, queenliness) or whether she was bothered that night, it came across like that to me...the latter.
However this is not Miss World, its not Miss Fashionable either...perhaps we need to start focussing less on all this high fashion and more on the girl in terms of her presentation on stage, e.g. modelling, projection etc. We do have a good grasp in terms of the other stuff, interviews (Or so I hope as La Toya said she had the judges in stitches), her body also seemed okay, but was it banging?
Perhaps it could have also been the photo? Who knows? Notice Miss USA who also did the topless didn't place...we still need to maintain some class, and sorry but La Toya's decision as much as it gained her much attention didn't do her much after a week.
Gov't funding is also CLEARLY not the answer, we need to ask ourselves as Trinbagonians if this beauty pageant business is important to us, and if yes really start doing a bit of outside training, e.g. through our friendly neighbours in Venezuela? If we want the title we gotta work for it!
