The Shetland Pony..

Uses..

The original use for the Shetland Pony was as a pack animal for the crofters, or farmers, on the islands. In the 1800's many Shetlands were exported to mainland Britain and were used as pit ponies in the collieries.

Nowadays, Shetland ponies are popular as pets, companion animals and are also used as children's riding ponies. In the show ring, they can often be seen in the Leading Rein classes, known as Short Stirrup in the United States. I even saw a program on The Animal Planet a week or so ago about the Shetland Pony Grand National, held every year at the Olympia International Horse Show in London.

The American Shetland..

The American Shetland is used as a harness pony and resulted from crosses with the Hackney Pony. It is very different in appearance from the original Shetland Pony, being taller and finer in build, with a high, showy leg action.

WHEN WORDS CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD

_________________________

Psalm 139:1-6 (NRSV)

O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,

     O LORD, you know it completely.
You hem me in, behind and before,
     and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
     it is so high that I cannot attain it.

_________________________

MY daughter is three. She has difficulty speaking because of a disease that affects her physical development. Whenever she wants to tell me something and I cannot understand, I tell her to speak carefully and to repeat what she has said. Sometimes I am preoccupied with what I am doing and don't pay enough attention to her the first time she tells me something.
Then when she has to repeat herself two or three times, she becomes upset and cries. She needs to be heard and attended to. At those times, I will embrace her and ask, "What's wrong, my little girl?" Then what I could not understand in words becomes clear to me, because compassion and love have become the medium of communication.

How does God understand us when we do not know the words to pray? God knows our feelings and desires and is always available for us. When we come to God, we are like children who depend on their parents. Even though we may not be able to express what we want to say, we come to God, bringing all our cares; and God understands. God listens to us from a compassionate and loving heart.

Prayer: God, we bring you all our cares, knowing you hear and
understand. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God understands even what we cannot express.
