This is going to come as a *HUGE* shock to all of you.......
I am computer illiterate.
But I have just *had* it with my server. Yesterday was the final straw - my favorite Boxer message board was down for hours and hours (thank you for rebuilding so quickly, Doug and Jacke) and when it finally came back....I read a few posts, took Mack for a walk and then came back in to indulge my addiction some more. The #$&^#@ server was down and stayed down about 24 hours. This happens almost every week-end - if it's not the internet, it's my email.
I am ready to go to war tomorrow morning......but if I make a change I don't know what to expect. I don't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. It's like this service is my old car....at least I *know* what problems I have, if I get something else......maybe I'll have a bunch of different problems.
This is how naive I am...........I thought it would just mean a change of email addy - but then I read about Diane's problems and some of the comments from others who have been through it.
When we got the computer and signed up for the internet (I guess you call it "dial-up" service?) we paid an extra $25 and the "webmaster" came to the house and got us started.

The one we do business now is local - I am thinking of going with GTE because they *are* big.......it doesn't seem like their equipment would be going down so often (?).

Have any advice for me?

Went to see Heather again today and was telling her about your broach.

She had a similar experience with a piece of chrystal and she said that it
will take time but you can cleanse it properly so that you can enjoy it.

What she did was to do a normal cleanse, then left it outside, in all
weathers, until she felt happy with it. It was outside for several months, bu
it can take longer. It is to do with, oops I forgot, but will ask again next
weetk. Sorry.

I have been moving more toward holistic cleaners and remedies for some time. Household allergies have made this even more important to me [saving $$$ in the process doesn't hurt one bit either]. I thought I'd share this with you guys as this is the second time I've used it with good results. Last night I was frying some potatoes in hot oil when a bit of oil splattered and hit me in the face just under my eyebrow (nothing too serious but I knew it would sting). I couldn't leave the hot oil unattended to go get anything from the bathroom to apply to it so (after dabbing the area with a little cool liquid and a cloth) I reached into the pantry (right behind me) grabbed the honey container and put a small dab on the spot (which had begun to sting by then). It felt better almost straight away and the only reason I remembered it had happened throughout the rest of the evening was that I had a small sticky patch on my face from it.

So, for minor burns if you're ever caught short, give it a go - it does work well. I've also used fresh aloe with outstanding results but the honey was closer last night.

Non bath solution for stinky pets. This solution helps disinfect and moisturizes when a bath is not practical or possible.

In a 1 quart spray bottle mix:
1/4 cup original listerine mouthwash
1/4 Alpha Keri Bath oil [also in unscented]
Fill remainder with water

Shake well - spray on and then wipe off with a dry cloth and lightly brush or use rubber curry comb to thoroughly distribute mixture on fur.

Non Toxic Bug Spray [Developed by Jerry Smith]

1 cup original Listerine
1 cup lemon scented dish soap
1 cup tobacco juice [3 fingers full [or one plug] of chewing tobacco mixed with 1/2 gal warm water - soak until water is black and yucky looking].

Add to end of hose sprayer and voila - gets rid of all kinds of bugs. If something stronger is needed Duraspan can be added at 1/2 strength but this mixture kills almost anything. Even ticks and mosky's don't like it!!!!

Raw Honey

This is one of the best web sites I have ever found on raw honey. It really explains what raw honey is, and isn't and the many uses for honey!!!!!

Most of the honey found in stores has been heated and strained of all of its beneficial "goodies". If the honey you are using is clear and golden in color then it will not help allergies or do much for other problems.

For my allergies I take about 2 tablespoons raw honey daily, usually on a piece of toast or biscuit. Since doing that this year my allergies are much improved!!!!

Tiger gets about 1 tablespoon a day [half at each meal] and his allergies to pollen, mold and grass have lessened. If his paws get raw I just put the honey on his peds like hand cream and he licks the stuff off. That way it acts on the skin and from the inside too!!!

I hope this helps. I used honey for years without success until I found out about the raw variety. Now, if I can find a source of raw clover or sourwood honey I will truly be in heaven!!!!!

Crystals are formed deep withing the earth as superheated gases and mineral-rich solutions work their way toward the surface through cracks and fissures. As they cool, the atoms that up until this point have been agitated, start to arrange themselves into more stable patterns. The atoms arrange themselves in regular three-dimensional patterns (crystal lattices) where every atom has found the most balanced arrangement possible. The crystals can dissolve and reshape, depending on the conditions around it. The beneficial properties of crystals stems from the fact that they are orderly and stable. When subjected to outside force - heat, pressure - crystals are able to make small adjustments to restore their internal stability. This is one of the reasons they are so widely used in things like lasers and watches.

The structure of a crystal means that it can absorb, focus and then transmit electromagnetic energy. Science hasn't any proof of healing through crystals, but it *has* proven that a crystal placed in an energy field will collect the energy and contain it. Many people believe that crystals work through the aura - the subtle magnetic field that surrounds the physical body. Also, Silicon is a major component of both crystals and our bodies. It's been suggested that energy might be transferred between the Silicon in the crystal and the Silicon in the body.

Gemstone therapy goes hand in hand with the Chakras. Chakras are energy centers that run up the spine to the crown of the head linking electromagnetic bodies to the physical. Humans have seven major chakras as well as one above the head, one below the feet, and a higher heart chakra just above the heart. Each chakra is associated with a color and certain stones are used to balance or stimulate the area. (Very long, but if you want a list I'll be happy to type it up.) The chakras must be balanced for physical and emotional health.

Stones can be placed on the body, carried in the pocket, placed around the house or worn. If you're going to wear the stone as jewelry, silver chains or rings allow better transference of energy. Also, stones should be cleared frequently. When you first acquire a stone it contains energy from every person that has handled it. Clear it by holding under running water for several minutes and allowing it to dry in sun or moonlight.

This is such a huge topic. Tell me what you want to know. What stones draw you? More about chakras and stones (slightly different for humans and animals, BTW)? It's often enlightening to see what our favorite stones are benefical for.

One last thing...Quartz crystals gather energy, alter it and release it. Black stones, like obsidian, gather and do not release making them useful for negative emotions and toxins (but them must be cleared often).

One of our best tennis players had to play Sampras the other day, and to
help him he played "You'll never walk alone" during the breaks. This
helped him and he played a terrific game.

When bill first had his stroke I used to play this and it helped me ge
through the fist couple of months, and later, Bill had heart failure for 6
months and Cliff Richard's "Millenium Pray" came out and this helped me
cope.

Does anyone have music which has helped them cope with a situation.

One of the penelties of living this side of the world is that everyone talks
when I am in bed asleep. boo hoo.

Ideas for kids (of all ages :) when they are on holiday. I only recently found out that you guys shut up your schools for the entire summer - awesome idea. We have four terms here (with our longest break being over the summer but only about 6 to 8 weeks, depending on what age group the kids are in). Things that you have used to entertain kids, also ideas for little ones (we have a grandparent or two on babysitting duty that might benefit from them - or like to share). Favourite childhood memories (long summer days that I thought would never end - they seem a long way away now). We have a school break coming up in the next week or so but it's midwinter here (lovely weather though - very strange stuff, let's hope it holds).

Favourite things for us to do in the summer include; bushwalks, beach visits, dog shows, ;) visiting our wonderful zoo, barbques and picnics ~ mostly stuff that really doesn't cost anything (or much)... family time out.

As a girl my family were into boating and we had wonderful summers away cruising and visiting islands, swimming and exploring. Sadly that ended when I was about seven or eight but I remember a lot of it still. Most of my memories seem to be about summer days and books... guess I was an easy child to keep entertained (when I wasn't asking for a dog (didn't happen) a horse (not a hope) a cat (I did get that one. :)

For those who don't know the story, I was in a rush (in fact on my way to get Gin and Sass's CGC) and my lock fell apart on my bedroom door. My purse and car keys were inside the bedroom, so it wasn't a matter of being able to shrug and say let's work this out slowly. I completely took it apart, but still, the lock was jammed solid and wasn't coming out. Sooooooo....

I had to break down the door *sheepish grin*

I've been stepping over my grooming table for a solid two months. Came home from work today and had a brand spanking new door.

I still keep high stepping over the threshold...LOL!!! But it is gorgeous. :)

Funny how the little things make you feel so good. Gotta go admire my door. ;)

A Canoe In The Mist
by Elsie Locke.

This is a childrens book but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually I wouldn't classify it as "for children" more, one of those books that transcends the boundaries and defies classification. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Based just outside of New Zealands most famous geothermal area of Rotorua sometime last century when travellers where coming here from as far afield as England to view the wonder of the beautiful pink and white terraces (one of the wonders of the world at the time). It is the story of various people (adult and child, white and native Maori) and their impressions of the terraces and surrounding areas immediately prior to the night of destruction when the nearby Tarawara mountain exploded in, what at first, was an amazing display but fast became a night of terror and devastation. When the world became too dark and noisy to see a light a few feet away or to hear the shouted words of the person beside you. When every step towards potential safety caused a foot to sink knee deep in volcanic mud from the bowels of the volcano as the inhabitants of the tourist village struggled through the darkness, the hurling rocks and mud, and the terrifying fireballs.

It is about friendships barely formed and then bonded into place by mutual support and the levelling of social considerations to the need for basic survival and waking to a dawn where there is no dawn, instead a world of total devastation where the first priority is to account for the living, the dead, and search for any other survivors.

It was especially evocative for me as I have visited the partially excavated village in question and been inside some of the dwellings, seen and touched artefacts but never breathed the atmosphere as I did while reading the book.

There were other villages as well, closer to the mountain, that were totally buried and never excavated - they and their residents will lie there for always.

This was just one of those books that keeps coming back to mind after finishing it. I have no idea if it can be bought overseas but if ever you want to gain a little insight into a part of New Zealands history, a little feel for the native people of this country perhaps, then this would be a great place for you (or your kids) to begin if you can get it.

It is amazing what Heather says at the end of the session, but I do feel so
much better when I have been.

She told me today that I don't take enough time for myself as I am always
available for other people. She said that when I go home I must go round
the garden smelling all the flowers. This way I will have to slow down to
smell the flowers.

Also that I wasn't letting people get close to me and I must. I am trying to
cope on my own when I need help. Also that I have had several injuries in
the past and the debre was still there but she is now clearing it.

I don't know how this works but I always feel better when I have been.

She has also given me some ointment for the pain, and it works. It is all
either herbs or oils.

Bill is now starting to walk with just a stick, but he is still a little unsteady,
but is making so much improvement.

I was just talking to Faye and she was asking me for some new recipe's and I thought I would post my polenta recipe, polenta is sooooo good and it's inexpensive and healthy. it's made of corn meal.
the best kind is made by golden pheasant and it comes in a big bag.

so it's 4 cups of liqued to 1 cup of polenta, serves around 4-5 people.

first bring to a boil 2 cans of chicken broth
1 cup of milk
1/2 of lemon fresh, squeezed into it, I like heavy lemon so I use a whole but it's up to you.
1 cup of water.
salt for flavor
2 tablesppons of butter or olive oil, I like the butter better.
bring to boil, not a high boil, sort of mild boil.

than lower to a simmer.

SLOWLY add your polenta in mixing it in slowly to avoid clumping, you don't want it to clump, so add slowly while your stirring continually.

once you have added all your polenta, keep the heat to a simmer and continue to stir, you want to have it creamy not lumpy. do not cover.

as it start's to thicken, add more water, add it sparingly and make sure it's not to thick, it takes 20 minutes to cook so you need to keep it sort of moist, so you will be adding water throughout the process.

the way you tell when it's done is when it moves easily away from the sides of the pan, keep stirring the entire time... once it moves away from the sides, it is done, it needs to be served right away. it is great with chicken, with fish, steak or just by itself. I eat it cold to, yesterday I ate it for lunch, dinner and breakfast, I am the polenta queen....... i had not made it in a month since my surgery:) it is just so yummy. the firsr few times I made it, it was lumpy so don't give up. I use a wooden spoon and a tall pot, not a frying pan type......

I hope you all enjoy this, we love it over here!
you can also add things like rosemary, garlic, sun dried tomatoe, parmesean, and mushrooms, lot's of neat stuff, but I prefer my recipe.

Has anyone had their colours done for clothing? You know - what season you fall into. Yesterday I did something really surprising for me - I went and bought clothes and actually bought skirts rather than trousers (not like me at all). Not only that I bought one that was in mulberry - totally not me but I love it!! Do your ideas on colours you like change over the years do you think? Maybe I'm just bored with things and this is a way of making a change.

If you had to caterogise yourself which season do you think you'd be? I think I'm an autumn person and am even learning to appreciate the subtlety of shades of brown (a good friend, the best king that gets bored with their very good quality clothes!!, recently gave me several tops, some of which are in brown that I am enjoying wearing - I would never have bought them for myself though).

PS - she also gave me two white tops which made me giggle. They're really pretty but not exactly Boxer proof!!! ;-)

(I was going to post this below about Diane's .com post, but I decided to move it up because I have a personal question to ask you guys.)

The market has been terrible here lately. In 1999 in Silicon Valley in CA (you know the place that all of the "cutting edge" computer companies were popping up all over?) you could virtually walk down the street with your resume in hand and walk into any internet co. and get a job. Internet companies grew REALLY big REALLY fast. Too fast. And the market took a dive. All the iinternet companies started going belly up. And now the tail end of it is hitting here.

Keep in mind that when the market takes a turn for the worst, the first industry that gets it is marketing and advertising. Companies have continued to make budget cuts and still are today. No work, no jobs. A little over a year ago I graduated college and I basically walked into the job I have now. Now, even with two year's experience I can't get a new job anywhere (believe me, I looked.)

Soooo... Yesterday my boss and his boss were talking VERY loudly and extensively around the office that we aren't making any money and we aren't pulling in any new clients. DARN it all! Right when we think we have found the perfect house.

Which brings me to a question.

We have fond this house which is EXACTLY what we have been looking for. I am kind of torn on this issue. Keep in mind that I have never bought before and tell me what you think.

I am in no way positive that my company is even close to going under. I am going to start extra hard, however, to look for another job. Right now I am renting, and our rent per month is 1200.00. (A house payment.)

Scenario 1:
We don't put a bid on the house. We stay here and I loose my job (I pull in 10,000 more than Chad.) We can't make rent and we get kicked out and have nowhere to live. (We will have to move in with my parents an hour away or get a NASTY apartment for 400 a month.)

Scenario 2:
We go through with buying the house. I lose my job. I am honest with the bank and I draw unemployment. We pay as much of the bills and mortgage as we can.

What happens here?? Does anyone know? If we are paying a majority of the bill would they repossess the house or are they a little more lenient that that?

Scenario 4:
My bosses were just having a bad day (they do bitch a lot too). They really had no reason to be concerned or to complain. They didn't really know what was going on at the corporate level. We buy the house right now, not knowing wether or not they were full of it. I keep my job. We llive happily ever after.

Scenario 5:

If anyoone has any insite on this and feels like sharing I would appreciate it! This REALLY is our dream house. It is a brick colonial. It has 3 floors, a huge yard for Nedra with a 6 FOOT FENCE! For crying out loud it has a DARKROOM for photography in the basement (I took 3 semesters of Photo in college - we are both artists, remember)!!!!! It has a DSL connection/Partial T1 connection (because it used to be a business) built in!!!!! All wood floors. 2600 square feet excluding the 1000 square foot DRY basement! 2 sunrooms, 3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, crown molding, center molding, and original baseboards. It was built in 1922.

What do you guys think?

I haven't really participated in this board yet, except for one reply sorry. I now have a question which I thought suitable so I hope you don't mind me using all your brains for an answer.

I have been with my partner for 9 months now, he is the love of my life. Anyway, in a couple of weeks time, it will the third anniversary of his father's death, whom he was very close to. We talk about his dad a lot, he's always with us and I want to do something special for my man on that day so that he knows I am thinking about him and how he feels. It will be the first time I have been with him for this anniversary. I thought of giving him a nicely worded card, along with perhaps a new flowering plant that we can plant at the cemetery where his dad is. Does anyone have any suggestions for what plant to buy? I know that various plants have meanings (red rose = love etc) and I was wondering if there is some sort of plant that would be a nice symbolic gesture that means something to him. Failing a plant, does anyone else have any suggestions on how to handle this day and what I can do? I haven't been in this sort of situation before and would appreciate any advice. Sorry to be late with this but my system has been down.

Last Wednesday I had a phone call from the hospital, they were going to
discharge Bill.

When he went into hospital he could wash and dress himself and walk with
the aid of a stick. After a week of being waited on, although they were
told not to, he had become an invalide. He couldn't wash, dress or walk.
I had to refuse to take him home. I was devastated.

They are now trying to get him more mobile and independent.

Hopefully it won't be too long before he is home.

As most of you know, I had that hernaited ruptured disc in my back that was pressing on my spinal cord, cauda equina nerve, and it damaged it. I am still numb in the groin, saddle area, back of legs and right heel of foot. it's just the weirdest feeling, I can't stand it...... the DR'S have no cure for this and they can't tell me if it will return. they say it needs to be decompressed off the nerve within 12 hours, mine went over 50 hours before they did the decompression...... I am having an EMG nerve conduction test next month, to see if the nerves are healing or are dead. it's not a 100% though...... my mother lives in Sedona Arizona and is BIG TIME into all that natural stuff, Gin chin Jitzu, homeopathy, bach rememdies, meditiation etc. she wants me to call her DR to get some homeopathic remedies sent to me for nerve damage and back pain. does anyone have any thoughts on this???? I guess it can't hurt but I have been unable to pick up the phone and make the call. I hate to waste my money, especailly since I am out on disability for awhile.

As most of you no, I had a Discectomy/laminectomy decompression to my L5-S1 disc about 2 weeks ago for a herniated ruptured disc in my back. ever since I have come home, I haven't felt right. I went to the DR and had a bllod work up done, all was normal, I had a CBC and sedrate which was very elevated. my memory is bad, I repeat myself a lot and I just can't seem to get things done. I had to have a friend over to pay my bills for me and I have tons of disabiltiy forms to fill out and it's really hard to figure things out. I don't feel right, I am on some pain meds but not a lot and I have used them before so that's not the problem, and I don't take them every day, I was on valium, but have stopped that to. I swear that anestisa did something to me, I am not the same person I was before. I am tired and my body does not feel normal. I was also so depressed in the hosptial, I cried most of the time, and I didn't no why. I just feel different and I don't no why. I was wondering if I coild have some slight "brain damage" I wonder if something went wrong when I was "under". I have never had surgery before so maybe this is normal?

thanks for your opinions. I am really downing the water to get my systme cleared out. I was under anestsia for 3.5 hours which is not to long compared to some surgeries. mostly it's my memory and concentration that is not normal.

Is glorious. The sky is that particular shade of blue that you only get when the world has woken to the crystal cold beauty of a frost. It is that colour that makes your heart ache it is so beautiful (best observed through a window - from beneath a feather duvet!). I have a question. This is straight out and out Autumn (fall) weather here - but it's the beginning of winter and all throughout autumn it was horrible - it rained and sulked and generally acted like winter in reverse. :( Now it's winter acting like autumn? It seems to me that the worlds weather patterns are all screwed up but I can only observe from my little corner of the world. Has anyone else noticed a definite change in weather patterns around them? I read something recently that mentioned the rate the worlds rainforests are being destroyed at - a truly frightening thing to think about. Apparently this is creating a greenhouse effect (I think) and causing change in our weather patterns? So tell me - is this everywhere or are we just a very weird country down here, LOL!!

It's bright but a little chilly here today and we are officially into the first month of winter. I feel the need to talk about pretty spring flowers that bloomed in your gardens and magnificent summer lush, heat loving blooms and foliage. No more sad and naked trees with bare limbs on the skyline. Tell me what you have going on in your gardens so I can at least remember that there is summer happening somewhere in the world!

Had a phone call just as I was leaving for the hospital, Bill had fallen out of
bed. The right side of his face is very swollen, cut and bruised. He has
a black eye that my grandson would be proud of.

They were still waiting for the results of the X-ray when I left so will be
ringing later.

He is worse that a child.

Went to be either massaged or have the chrystals (I had the chrystals)
today and asked about massage for dogs.

Apparently someone is working at one of the rescue homes and
massaging the dogs with quite a bit of success in calming the dogs down.

She massages and uses the christals on her own dog, who really enjoys
it.

It can be difficult putting the oils on because of their coats, but if you are
careful it can be done. Don't put too much on your hands otherwise it
will clog in the coat.

She told me that I had had a serious injury to my right ankle and I could't
remember it, but later I did, I fell off my bike and badly damaged my
ankle. It was about 15 years ago and I had forgotten.

I felt much better when I came out, but she did say I had to think of myself
more. Chance would be a fine thing.

Sorry about that but everything stops for Cliff. It is like looking at my
brother only he hasn't got Cliff's voice or money.

Thanks to Cliff my message is going to be different, he has brought the
wall down which I have put up to try and cope. He sand the Lords Prary.

Bill's blood presure was down and he was dehydrated when he went in,
but since then they have stopped for 2 days his frusimide and degoxin
tablets. On Thursday evening he was sick and had an epileptc fit, it was
only a small one.

The problem is that he is not eating or drinking which is quite worrying,
and also he only wants to sleep. He won't get dressed or sit in a chair.

This is not Bill, and I had a work with the nurses about it They are going
to do something about it tomorrow. It is quite worrying.

I will keep you posted and please can he have some vibes to help him
recover.
