It was Signas who finally decided to go and see Gate, but he took Lifesaver with him. Lifesaver's twin stayed behind to help Douglas, so that there would be someone left to run the show.
Gate's current whereabouts was Moscow, where some of the top Reploids were meeting to discuss new technologies. Signas used his military status to get in. He was able to get a program, and check the list of names. Gate would be speaking second, after Dr. Izzy Glow. Signas spoke with some dignitaries, and mingled a little. When the conference began, he and Lifesaver took a seat, and listened to Dr. Glow talk about his Laser theory. Although he did not say, Signas knew that his experiments were taking place at the highly secretive "Laser Institute." Izzy's latest experiment had caused him lots of stress from the media. He noted that he had to move his experiments from his former lab to a more private setting, his own castle. Then he took a few questions from the press. Signas thought about what Dr. Glow was saying. Maybe that information would come in handy later? Who knew?
Finally, Izzy finished, and Gate came on.
Signas listened to Gate talk about how his colleagues were in the process of developing DNA cloning technologies for Reploids. He had to explain the reason why science began to use that terminology concerning Reploids. After that, his theory was straight forward. During the questions, Gate was bombarded by questions concerning ethics, and the rightness of his work. "Should it be permissable by our government to allow Reploid cloning, or reproduction through this medium?"
,one Reporter asked.
"I say to you, not only should it be permissable, it should be encouraged. The one thing that sets us apart from the humans is our ability to store our information on a back-up hard disk. All we have to do is reconstruct the body of the deceased Reploid, then we can simply download that data beck into the Reploid's brain. Once they are reanimated, they become just like they were before."
"What about the speculation that cloned Reploids can go Maverick? How do you account for that?"
"I assure you that is just a myth, now if you'll excuse me..." Gate left the stage, but the press continued to hammer him with questions. As he left, Signas was standing back stage, waiting for him.
"Yes, can I help you?", Gate asked with a smirk. "Listen, if you're here from the media..." Signas gave him a peculiar look. "Excuse me, but do I look like a news reporter to you?" , Signas scoffed.
"No. My mistake, who are you?"
"My name is Signas, I am the leader of the Maverick Hunters. You must be Gate."
"Yes I am, how did you know who I am?"
"A colleague of your used to work for me."
"Who....?"
"Alia.", Signas said with a heavy sigh.
"Alia! Where is she? Is she here?", Gate asked with enthusiasm.
"No. She is dead. I was hoping you could help me bring her back."
"What? She died? How did this happen?"
"Hmm. It is probably not a good idea to talk here. Is there some place we can go?"
"We? Oh...who is your companion?"
"Sorry, my mistake. This is Lifesaver, our chief medical officer. He had detailed information on Human, animal, and Reploid physiology. He is here to assist you if necessary."
"Very good. We shall see what good he can do. Come with me, my private car awaits. We'll go to my hotel for now. There we can talk."
"Hotel?"
"Yes, I'm staying here in Moscow for a couple more days. I need to discuss a few things with some of the other scientists here. But we can talk about Alia back at my suite. Come on, before the media finds us here."
"Alright then. Let's go.", Signas replied. (to be continued)
