Moscow: Interior: Gate's Suite
Gate stood with his arms folded behind his back. His back was turned toward Signas as he looked out over Moscow. It was raining in this part of the city, and the wind was blowing mildly along with it. It was late afternoon, but the sky appeared gray. Signas reclined on a plush leather seat, and Lifesaver stood by the door. From the reflection on the windows, Signas could read the expression on Gate's face.
"So you want to bring Alia back to life?", he muttered.
"Yes.", Signas replied. His tone was cool, and even.
"It is a difficult thing to do you know. Even my top Scientists are almost not capable of this feat."
"But it HAS been done before. Dr. Cain was able to rebuild Zero. Dr. Doppler reconstructed Vile. Surely you must have the technology?"
"Well it was simpler before. Reploids change with each generation. It is just like the computer systems which we use every day. Programmers are always coming up with new ways to improve them. It is the same way with Reploids. Ever since we began, our designers have tried to improve upon the original design. Alia is an example of that. Her system is quite complex. It would take some time for me to try and replicate it."
"Oh, I see. So when can we begin?", Signas asked.
"Well, again it is not that simple. Do you have her body?"
"No, it was lost to us. She died on a mission of the most classified sort."
"Ah, I see. So we'd be building her from scratch."
"That would be the case."
"What would you need to get started?", Lifesaver finally asked. Gate then turned around, for the first time since the conversation had began. "For starters, I'd need a complete set of her technical read-outs. All the information you have on her. Anything that you cannot disclose due to security reasons I understand."
"No, it is alright. We will get you what you need.",Signas answered. Get began to hesitate. "Listen," he then said, "If we do this you cannot tell anyone. You cannot tell X, or Zero, or even Alia herself. No one must know!"
"Why is that?" Signas asked.
"Because it is illegal. If it were found out what we are attempting to do then we would all be taken into custody. My lab would be seized, and we would be thrown into a holding cell. Maybe even molted down! Are you comfortable making this decision?"
"I would be putting my command at risk?", Signas asked.
"You would be putting your very life at risk.", Gate said in a grim tone. Lifesaver moaned in the background.
"Alia sacraficed her life for us. She fought for what we all believe in. I know that this is not the brightest of paths, but it is my choice to walk down it or not."
"So what do you decide then?", Gate asked.
"Let us do this thing. Let us do this swiftly so that it can be over with." ,Signas said with a heavy heart.
"Then we begin as soon as I return home. I will contact you in a couple of days.", Gate replied.
"I will give you a secure contact line. No one will be able to tap into it.", Signas told him.
"Good. Until then, you mustkeep this under wraps. Tell nobody of Alia's death. Anyone who does know must be quarantiened, or silenced. We must keep this a secret. You must also keep up the public appearance that she is still alive. Until then tell no one."
"I understand.", Signas answered. (to be continued)
