Zero stood on the roof of a warehouse. It was the one that belonged to Razor Mantis. When Doppler had left, he told the specialists that they no longer had to attend the matches if they did not want to. He only wanted to make a show by having them all watch. He made a statement to the press that he had pressing matters to attend to on the Island, and suggested that the media focus more on the fights than him. So far, the tournament had only gone on for two weeks. Meanwhile, back at Hunter HQ, A lot had been happening.
Among the many events, Alia had finally returned, by the miracle of Gate's work.
Also....Signas was finally able to patch through to Blade Runner, but his information was limited. So, It surprised him beyond all belief when he got a priority message from Zero.
"Zero, can you read me?"
"Yes Signas, loud and clear."
"Zero! Where are you? Where have you been? We were worried sick about you, and X! What has happened to you?"
"Calm down Signas, I'm alright."
"Wait, Zero....what is that you are wearing?"
"It is a disguise. Look I haven't much time. I'll explain later. Signas, Listen to me. I have found Mega Man X!"
"X? Where is he? Where are you?"
"I'm at point 575446B-12, have someone find it on the map.
It is a large Island in the middle of the Pacific. Oh, and you're not going to believe this.."
"That Island. Its....", Signas mumbled.
"New Dopppler Town.", Zero finished his thought.
"Doppler! I can't believe it!" Signas gasped.
"X is in a secure facility, and I cannot get to him. There is an energy field I cannot seem to break. I'm going to try and get him out of there though, don't worry."
"Zero, wait a minute. How did X get to an Island owned by Dr. Doppler? Last time we saw him, he blew a hole in the wall. He had been infected with the Sigma Virus, and his behavior was erradic. How do we know we can trust him?"
"Signas, I know about all of that, but I saw him in person. He seems to be sound in mind."
"But you said he was being held in a barrier. Could it not be because Doppler is afraid of him going Maverick, and destroying everyone?"
"Signas, you know better. I know you wernen't around for our last skirmish with Doppler, but we didn't exactly leave him on good terms."
"But he gave you an anti-virus program! He wouldn't have given it to you unless..."
"Signas, please. Sigma was our mutual enemy. Dop wanted us to get Sigma because he did not have the strength to. He has more reason to hate Sigma than us though. I don't know why X is being held, but I think it has something to do with the tournament."
"Tournament? Yes, Blade Runner told me about something like that."
"Blade Runner? He's here?"
"What, you mean you didn't know that?"
"No. I had no idea. I thought I was here alone. What did he tell you about the tournament?"
"Not much really. His message was jumbled. He was speaking so fast. I think he said that he was on an Island, he said something about Vile, and then he mentioned tournament. I could barely make out what he was saying, but it was enough to get his location. We boosted the signal strength, and changed our uplink, but I was barely able to talk to him more than a few minutes."
"What did you tell him?"
"There is some kind of fleet of approaching ships headed toward the Island even as we speak. Zero, take a care. This is no place for you to be right now. I think you should leave, even if it means leaving X behind. We can't afford to lose either of you, but if we can help it, I'd rather not lose both of you!"
"No Signas. I am not leaving X behind. I'll be alright. We've been through worse scrapes in the past."
"Alright then. Your first priority is to find the power source which feeds the barrier. I sense you are under a guise, so you may have to keep that up. Cut the power, and X can go free. Then get him, and get out of there. Come back to base, and we can at least regroup. Besides, I'm sure you could use the rest too."
"Yes. But not when there's still work to do. I have to go now Signas. I'll contact you soon. Zero out."
